Audio: 10-Minute Interview With ‘Stardust’ Director Matthew Vaughn

Rating: 4/5 I am publishing my full, 10-minute audio interview with “Stardust” director Matthew Vaughn in unedited form. The film opens everywhere on Aug. 10.

In this interview, it’s interesting why Vaughn has departed from producing violent films like “Snatch” and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” to directing “Stardust”. He said it’s because he had children.

He also says CG effects are often a “get-out-of-jail card” for many Hollywood directors.

Vaughn says he worked closely on set with Neil Gaiman, who wrote the novel, and created with him a list of lots of candidates for the lead female role. They decided on Claire Danes.

This interview took place on July 24, 2007 at the Four Seasons in Chicago.

‘Stardust’ Director Matthew Vaughn to Direct Marvel’s ‘Thor’

In my interview with Matthew Vaughn, he loudly resounded a directorial shift away from the violent likes of producing “Snatch” and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” to directing “Stardust”.

Heavily influenced by “The Princess Bride,” the fantasy film “Stardust” opens on Aug. 10. In the meantime, it was revealed on Aug. 9 that he is continuing his non-violent word. This report comes from Variety:

Marvel Studios is setting Matthew Vaughn to direct “Thor,” [which is] based on the Marvel Comics character.

Marvel is aiming for a pre-strike production start this winter. “Thor” marks [his] second effort at a [superhero film].

Production Budget For ‘Stardust’ is $70 Million, Director Matthew Vaughn Says

While I’ll save full details about my interview with “Stardust” director Matthew Vaughn until the film’s opening on Aug. 10, I will mention – because it’s not widely known – the film’s production budget: $70 million.

Claire Danes stars in “Stardust” by Paramount Pictures.

We also spoke about how having children has dramatically changed his life and career, his creative liberty in working with Neil Gaiman (who wrote the novel the film is adapted from) and on navigating the balance between using location imagery and CGI.

Jet-Lagged ‘Stardust’ Director Matthew Vaughn Appears at Public Q&A in Chicago

Matthew Vaughn, who produced violent films such as “Snatch” and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” said on Monday night at a “Stardust” screening and public Q&A in Chicago that his shift to directing the fantasy film was inspired by “having children”.

The packed house gave his latest project a relatively warm reception. Even so, only two people in the crowd had read the book. The film opens on Aug. 10. My interview with Vaughn will appear then.
