The Top 10 Greatest Chicago Movies From Chicago Sun-Times Columnist Tom McNamee
Following a June 22 post about the American Film Institute (AFI) refreshing its list of the 100 greatest films of all time, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Tom McNamee has followed up with his list of the top 10 greatest Chicago movies.
In the AFI’s list, not one was made in Chicago. Because achieving concensus on such a list is practically impossible, I’ll personally reserve making judgment except to say that No. 8 stands out like an oddly sore thumb.
He intentionally included some selections you’ve likely never heard of and fully expects readers to think he’s batty. Judged by his desire to see a film more than once, here’s his list:
10) “The Hudsucker Proxy” (1994)
9) “The Fugitive” (1993)
8) “Stranger Than Fiction” (2006)
7) “Things Change” (1988)
6) “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (1986)
5) “High Fidelity” (2000)
4) “Road to Perdition” (2001)
3) “Cooley High” (1975)
2) “The Blues Brothers” (1980)
1) “Call Northside 777” (1948)
