Chicago Agency Releases 2007 Fall, Holiday Film Schedule

The following information on fall and holiday 2007 film releases has been provided to me as of Oct. 12. As there are two Chicago agencies, please note this only comprises a portion of all upcoming films.

‘Feast of Love’ Pouring Free Coffee Across North America on Sept. 20

As a clever way of creating ink today when it probably would not have otherwise, MGM announced on Monday that upcoming film “Feast of Love” is sponsoring a North American coffee day on Sept. 20.

Coffee shops across North America are giving away free coffee from 2 to 4 p.m. on thursday to “celebrate love, life and coffee in the spirit of the film’s coffee-house backdrop”.

The Chicago coffee shop is Red Hen Bread at 500 W. Diversey and 1623 N. Milwaukee. In total, 92 coffee shops in 59 North American cities are involved. Confirmed coffee shops can be found here.

Directed by Robert Benton and starring Morgan Freeman, Selma Blair and Greg Kinnear, “Feast of Love” opens everywhere on Sept. 28. The film is produced by Lakeshore Entertainment.

‘Rescue Dawn’ Screens on July 4 to American Troops in Iraq

On July 4, MGM screened its Vietnam War biopic “Rescue Dawn” in Iraq to America troops. Some 2,000 troops stationed at Camp Anaconda (a large U.S. base near Balad) screened the film, which highlights the life of Dieter Dengler.

During the Vietnam War, Dengler is the only American to ever break out of a prisoner-of-war (POW) camp in the impenetrable Laotian jungle.

The film, which was released in Los Angeles and New York on July 4, was introduced with a taped message to the troops from lead actors Christian Bale, Steve Zahn and Jeremy Davies. The film is directed by Werner Herzog.

Rescue Dawn will expand its release domestically in 10 markets on July 13 and release wide on July 27. My interview with Zahn on the topic of the film will be released shortly.

Tom Cruise, United Artists to Release ‘Lions For Lambs’ in First Collaboration

“Lions for Lambs” is scheduled to be the first film churned out of the new partnership between Tom Cruise and United Artists. The film is being released by MGM and is scheduled to open on Nov. 9, 2007.

Robert Redford, Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise star in the film, which digs behind the news, politics and a nation divided to explore the human consequences of a complicated war.

The film is directed by Robert Redford and is currently in post-production.
