Monopoly: World’s Most Popular Board Game Preps Hollywood Premiere
Hasbro, which claims that 750 million people have played its Monopoly game since the 1930s, wants to lure even more teenagers into playing board games.
A Monopoly film is now in the works that features “sexy, young people” including Scarlett Johansson and Kirsten Dunst.
They’d be working under the directorial direction of the great Ridley Scott from “Alien,” “Blade Runner” and “Gladiator” fame.
The actors fit with his theme of filming strong female characters. Sir Scott is also known for casting actors who have a strong theatre and drama background.
While the film would likely stick out like an unlikely sore thumb in Scott’s dossier, before Monopoly he wanted to make Encyclopedia Brown movies. He didn’t.
Though it’s easy to scoff at the concept of this movie, I’d rather challenge the greats involved in it to surprise us with something entertaining, meaningful or both.
