Confirmed: Indie Thriller Filming Now in Chicago is Titled ‘Root of All Evil’

Because there has been confusion about the title for this indie thriller, I am now conclusively confirming that “Root of All Evil” is the official title for this Sean Bean picture, which is filming now in Chicago. “The Cache” is its working title.

I learned this at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday when leaving my office. Crew set up directly outside my office on Ravenswood about three blocks south of Irving Park. I spoke with several people there to confirm the film’s official title.

A car was on a rig with lighting. The film stars Sean Bean from “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hitcher”.

At 5:52 p.m. today, I received a note from “Melrose Park Patti” notifying me that Sean Bean (from “Lord of the Rings,” “The Hitcher,” etc.) is filming in Chicago as of Sept. 8.

Upon conducting research on this, a Sept. 3 MovieWeb article verifies this report and also tags Bean as being in town:

Chris Hemsworth has been cast alongside Sean Bean in the indie thriller “The Cache”. The film is currently shooting in Chicago with Steve Anderson directing.

It turns out that “The Cache,” which isn’t listed on IMDb or other sources, has been renamed “Root of All Evil,” according to this Web site. Neither films appear on IMDb or in Bean’s filmography.

“Melrose Park Patti” says Bean is also in Chicago with “the gentleman who got poisoned in ‘Dumb & Dumber’”. Researching that statement, he would be Mike Starr.

While it’s currently unclear why Bean and Starr would be together, Starr is confirmed as an actor in the film “Chicago Overcoat,” which I mentioned on Sept. 2 will be filming in Chicago from Oct. 1 to Nov. 30.

In other news on a slow Saturday in Chicago, here’s an interesting article in the Chicago Sun-Times that attempts to analyze whether “making films in Chicago is worth the hassle”.

Chicago Sun-Times writer Leslie Baldacci says “The Dark Knight” means “big bucks plus a nice ego boost” for Chicago.

In an rebuttal to the article, Chicago Sun-Times writer Deborah Douglas speaks of “selling our souls to prove we matter”. In her space, I note this:

“I was compelled to tell the director to come to Chicago,” said Naveen Chathappuram, whose footprint will be much smaller while making “Root of All Evil” (a psychological thriller starring Sean Bean). “It was more instinctual. It was almost a calling.”
