New Video Captured of ‘The Dark Knight’ Filming in Buena Park

I just received a note from a reader named Ken informing me about a video that has been shot of “The Dark Knight” filming in Chicago’s Buena Park neighborhood.


This set is under the El train tracks behind Kenmore Avenue just north of Buena Avenue. The location is just a few blocks from the set on Clarendon Avenue and Cuyler Avenue that was covered here earlier this week.

The video has flown under the radar and was filmed on June 14, 2007. Ken says the person who shot this video goes by the online name “Irishpirate” and is a regular on Buena Park message boards. He also runs this blog.

1:40 p.m. update: I just received a note from University of Chicago graduate student Donald Frederick.

He said: “There are a ton of camera lights and riggings being set up all over campus. I noticed that previous pictures of Maggie Gyllenhaal show University of Chicago buildings in the background. The campus [provides] a perfect backdrop. Also, the streets around the main quadrangle [have postings] for no parking through the night.”

I just finished interviewing “A Mighty Heart” director Michael Winterbottom to find that my correspondent, Phil Tadros of MetroProper, has quickly delivered on my request.

Because I was downtown and the coffee shop he owns (Dollop) is right where “The Dark Knight” filmed yesterday and all day today, I asked him to take a few pictures of the action. He did better.

By the way, the “Rory’s First Kiss” you see referenced in this video is the fake working title for “The Dark Knight”. The working title is “Batman Begins 2”.

5:03 p.m. update: I asked Phil for set footage. Because he knows friends everywhere, he went into a nearby apartment for a glimpse into what it looks like and the changes being made to the surrounding area.

With all the hoopla surrounding filming of Batman film “The Dark Knight” in Chicago, a keen reader has sent me a note more specifically stating that the project filmed at this location on Clarendon Ave. on Wednesday night and will be again on Thursday.
